What is Biktarvy (bictegravir, emtricitabine, tenofovir alafenamide) for?
Biktarvy is a three-drug combination of bictegravir (BIC), a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), and emtricitabine (FTC) and tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), both HIV-1 nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), and is indicated as a complete regimen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It is only used in patients where the virus has not developed resistance to a class of HIV medicines called integrase inhibitors, or to tenofovir or emtricitabine.
Biktarvy is available as tablets, each containing 50 mg bictegravir, 200 mg emtricitabine, and 25 mg tenofovir alafenamide. The recommended dose is one tablet a day.
